Daniel de Cordoba dance troupe will present "The Roots of Flamenco"

Daniel de Cordoba Bailes Espanoles presetns "Las Raices del Flamenco" at the Latino Cultural Center, 2600 Live Oak St. at 7pm on Saturday, October 9.

This spectacular Spanish and flamenco dance program explores the rich variety of cultures that fused and evolved into flamenco as it is known today.

Spain, because of it geographical location, was the crossroads of the ancient world. Guest artists will perform authentic Hindu dances (India is the original home of the "Romany" gypsies). Also featured will be Middle Eastern dancers depicting the Moorish influences on Spain, and the Bailes Espanoles company will demonstrate how this influences flamenco.

The program will also feature the popular "Fiesta Flamenca".

The Celts, Visigoths, Greeks, Romans, Jews, Moors, and finally the gypsies all settled on the Iberian peninsula over the course of many centuries.

The similarity and differences in the "zapateado" or foot beats; and hand, arm, and body movements, as danced in the Far East, Middle East and the Mediterranean area will be exlpored through music, song, and dance.

The city of Dallas, Office of Cultural Affairs; the Texas Commission on the Arts; TACA; El Sol de Texas; Al Dia; The Dallas Morning News and KERA fund this progam.

Tickets to "The Roots of Flamenco" are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens, and $8 for students and children. For more information, call 214-366-9557.
